Corporate Irresponsibility and Negligence

What does it mean when a company decides to voluntarily suspend distribution of a certain product?

Corporate responsibility is a growing issue in the United States. The ubiquity of irresponsible companies that hold themselves to no strict moral code is quite astonishing. Sadly, the issue has been a problem for several years, but since the fall of Enron, it has been monitored with greater intensity. Given the complexity of today’s current society and the vigorous legal structure therein, what does it mean for society, the company, and the individual, when an organization decides to voluntarily suspend distribution of a product? What are the implications of such an action?

The answer to these questions depends almost entirely on perspective, especially with respect to the circumstances under which this action takes place. For those of us on the outside, consumers mostly, we may never know exactly what motivates these kinds of actions, but an analysis of the sequence of events can provide a crude story of what might be going on.

Take Medtronic as an example. On October 15th of last year, the company announced that it would voluntarily suspend the sales of its Sprint Fidelis defibrillation leads after there were numerous reports of leads that failed after having been implanted. The failures sometimes led to fatal outcomes for unsuspecting patients.

Medtronic’s actions placed a veil of corporate responsibility over an issue that is much greater than is touted. When a company deals in an industry that puts people’s lives at risk, they should be held responsible for the either lack of preparation or negligence exercised during the making of that product.

If you or someone you know is suffering from the corporate negligence of Medtronic which allowed the distribution of faulty Sprint Fidelis leads, please contact a Medtronic lawsuit attorney of the Williams Kherkher law firm by calling 866.950.9000.
